One of the best conveniences of the modern era is the invention of the glorious clothes dryer. Prior to this amazing machine, people were forced to hang their garments on clothes lines, which could have disastrous results. If an unexpected rainstorm appeared out of nowhere, your clothes would have been even further soaked. Strong winds could blow your freshly washed clothes into the dirt and mud, and then you would have to launder your clothes again (by hand, no less). Having the ability to throw your clothing in machines to do the hard work for you is a privilege that we often take for granted. Today we would like to discuss some helpful tips for drying your clothes.

First Things First: Check The Label

Despite serious advances in technology, not all clothing can be machine-dried. Bras should never go in the dryer because the elastic will lose its shape and underwires could pop out. Spandex swimsuits should also avoid the dryer at all costs to avoid breaking down. We discourage throwing tights in the dryer because they are vulnerable to snags. If you own any bedazzled clothing items, these cannot go in the dryer or else your beloved sparkles could fall or melt off. If you are unsure of which clothing items need to be air dried instead, simply check the label on the tag.

Loading

Although propane clothes dryers are up to 20 percent more efficient than electric dryers, you still waste valuable energy when you only dry a few items at a time. Therefore, it’s important to dry full loads of laundry to avoid wasting energy. However, make sure that you don’t overload the dryer, either. When the dryer is overloaded, the clothing doesn’t have enough time to dry in a timely manner and will wrinkle more as well.

Choose The Correct Heat Setting

Depending on the type of materials your clothing is made out of, you will need to select the right heat setting. Heavy, durable fabrics such as canvas, denim, and terry cloth towels can use high-heat settings. On the other hand, synthetic materials such as polyester require a medium heat setting while more delicate items require low heat settings. When in doubt, opt to use the lower heat settings on your dryer.

Remove Your Clothes Immediately

Once your clothes are dry, don’t wait to take them out of the dryer, or else wrinkles will set in. Give each clothing item a good shake, and fold them or hang them immediately.

Clean The Filter Every Time

Before drying a load of laundry, check to ensure that the lint filter is clean. Dirty filters cause laundry loads to take much longer to dry. Also, remove any lint from the filter after drying your clothes. This ensures that the next person using your clothes dryer will not dry their clothing using a dirty filter.
