How To Grill

Oh, look what we’ve done — we’ve gotten carried away with ourselves again, forgetting we have a promised blog topic to get to! That being said, if you want to understand the fundamentals of grilling with a propane grill, in addition to learning the basics as to how to grill steak, chicken, and burgers, by all means, read on.

Never Have You Ever — Grilled?

There is no shame. Every grillmaster in the world, be them self-proclaimed or the real deal, started somewhere. Don’t be that person who is too shy to ever learn something you deeply want to attempt, simply because you are ashamed that you might not be good, or even proficient, at first!

Seriously. We aren’t just talking about grilling, either.

But let’s get to it. Grilling 101 on a propane-fueled gas grill. Here we go. You ready? We are ready.

The reason we are telling you beginners how to grill using a propane-fueled grill, aside from the fact that we are a propane supplier (which is a fairly significant reason, we’d warrant), is that gas grills are far and away the easiest kind of grill to use. To light your grill, all you have to do is turn a knob. Cleaning is likewise almost as straightforward and quick.

But before you turn that grill on, you have to have some propane to fuel the fire. Luckily, you’ve come to the right place when it comes to finding a local place to find a high-quality propane tank. If it’s grilling time, and the weather lately tells us that it’s getting closer and closer, Mighty Flame is right on the way if you are in need of a clean, fresh, tested, and certified propane tank.

DiSanto Propane has a Mighty Flame Tank Exchange Program that allows you to take your empty tank to a variety of locations that are assured to be close by wherever you are in the country. Seriously, check out our locations!

On top of our convenience, our Mighty Flame propane tanks are reliable, offer tamper-resistant packaging, and they are DiSanto backed, which means each tank comes with a meticulous attention to detail. More specifically, our state-of-the-art propane tank cylinder refurbishing and safety inspection guarantee every Mighty Flame propane cylinder is freshly painted and clean. It’s leak-tested, precision-filled, and branded for delivery. Many of our dealers are open 24-hours a day, so don’t worry if you are late to the party, or are even planning a late-night grilling session! We’ve got you covered.

Step Two

Now that you’ve got your propane tank from Mighty Flame, you are good to go, assuming you have a propane tank in the first place. Come to think of it, perhaps we should’ve listed “buying a grill” as step one. Regardless, let’s get to the good stuff.

Step two, not counting turning the dang thing on, is figuring out how to best use your heat source to get the desired cooking style. Utilizing direct heat simply means you put the food, be it chicken, steak, veggies, fruit, or whatever, right over the top of your heat source. In this case, that’s a flame, as opposed to coals like you’d find on a charcoal grill.

Use direct heat for foods that cook before they burn. Steak is probably the best example of this kind of food, but the list also includes seafood, burgers, and kebabs.

Use indirect heat to cook foods on a cooler part of the grill, meaning a part of the grill that isn’t directly under your mighty, mighty flame. When you use indirect heat, you’re probably going to want to cover your grill, unless you are expressly told otherwise for a particular reason.

For foods, or ingredients, that require slower cook times, use this indirect heat approach. You can also use it for smoke-roasting or for finishing up your meats that have a nice sear on them. Each grill is different in terms of its quality and cook times, so you’ll have to play with it a bit to determine the proper balance. Also, taste comes into this equation. Some people like their burgers pink and their steaks bloody. Others remember mad cow disease, SARS, and swine flu and think better of pink in their ground meat. To each their own!
