So it’s also kind of like a prequel in that regard (much like The Godfather Part II).

Cold Outside? Give These Classic Movies a Try
Once Upon a Time in the West
One of the most classic Spaghetti Westerns (so named “by American critics and other countries because most of these Westerns were produced and directed by Italians” according to Wikipedia), Once Upon a Time in the West is another epic film from director Sergio Leone, who also directed Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
This 1968 movie stars Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Jason Robards, and Claudia Cardinale and features an amazing score from renowned composer Ennio Morricone. It tells the story of a battle over land between a bandit and others. There are a number of twists and turns along the way and the film is known for its action sequences and wide angle shots of dusty landscapes that went on to influence many other Westerns over the years.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest Westerns of all time, this is one classic movie you definitely shouldn’t miss.
Sunset Boulevard
If you’re in the mood for some film noir, you’d be hard pressed to find something better than Sunset Boulevard. Originally released in 1950, this classic film stars William Holden, Gloria Swanson, Nancy Olson, and Erich von Stroheim. When it was released, it received nominations for eleven different Academy Awards and is often remembered for its amazing performances and unsettling atmosphere.
This is one movie that will catch you and have you hooked from the very beginning thanks to its interesting characters, engaging plot, and sense of mystery. Shot entirely on black and white film, the cinematographer “brings together the realistic lighting of Joe Gillis out in the real world with the gothic look of Norma Desmond’s mansion,” according to film historian Tom Stempel. Time Magazine once described it as a story of “Hollywood at its worst told by Hollywood at its best.” We couldn’t agree more.
Rear Window
Whether you’ve seen every Alfred Hitchcock film or you’re just looking for a good place to start, Rear Window is one of the very best. Life Magazine described Hitchcock as “the greatest master of melodrama in screen history” and Rear Window proves that this is the case.
Mental Floss sums the plot up perfectly noting that the “movie concerns L.B. ‘Jeff’ Jefferies, a photojournalist stuck in his apartment thanks to a broken leg [who] accidentally witnesses what he thinks is a murder, but must prove to the police, his nurse Stella, and his girlfriend Lisa that he isn’t just imagining things.”
At the end of the day, viewers are treated to a film that is full of mystery and intrigue, made by an all-time great director at his finest and a wonderful cast and crew. If you’ve never seen Rear Window before, do yourself a favor and let it suck you in because it really doesn’t get much better than this.
